How to set-up Microsoft Outlook Express for your email account

Microsoft Outlook Express Setup

To add a new email account to Microsoft Outlook Express

Open up Microsoft Outlook Express and select the Accounts menu item from the Tools menu.



Ensuring that you have the Mail tab in view, click on Add and select Mail....



You will be presented with a new dialogue box asking for your name. Enter the name you would like to appear on your emails.

Once this is done press Next.



Now enter the email address that people can use to send email to you. You will have been provided with an email adress username with which to use. Enter this together with '@yourdomain.co.uk' (replacing yourdomain with your actual domain name).

Once this is done press Next.



You are now asked to enter in the names of the email servers that you will use. Enter 'mail.yourdomain.co.uk' (replacing yourdomain with your actual domain name) into both the incoming server and outgoing server names.

Once this is done press Next.



You will be asked for your account name and password.

For the account name, enter your username, followed by '@', followed by your domain name and TLD suffix (i.e. whether it's a .co.uk or a .com etc).

For the password, enter the password you have chosen to use with this email account.

If you wish to not have to enter this password each time you connect to the mail server you must check the 'Remember password' box.

Once this is done press Next.



Your new email account has now been added

Press Finish to return to Outlook Express.



With the account you just created highlighted in blue click the 'Properties' button.

Now click on the 'Servers' tab and ensure that the 'My server requires authentication' option is checked.
